listen. it’s a good app. don’t let anyone know i said that though.
EDITED: it appears that some of these issues have been taken care of, but my review stands. look – i know people complain about tumblr. and they should. i’m not very open about my use of it, but it’s also the only social media site in which your dashboard is free of creepily invasive algorithms and subject to ur own choices and taste. i’ve met some very lovely people there who i’ve formed wonderful friendships with. the updates usually aren’t great, (the groupchat feature for example) but they usually aren’t terrible either – but this most recent one is driving me up the wall. i can’t click on the original blog of any post anymore, it bounces back as if the person has deleted, you have to go thru dozens of reblogs just to get there. the more annoying update however is that the image quality on tumblr seems to have been seriously degraded with this new version. it used to be that images would look low quality as u scrolled but if you clicked on one, the image adjusts and shows u the high quality version – absolutely fine with me thanks. but now – it seems as if the image is low quality all around. as someone who edits photos often in order to get them to a certain state of hq, this is incredibly frustrating. i use tumblr for image references and collage material and it’s a lot harder to do that when the image quality is so rough. please fix this issue asap…
Always partial to T.
Been using this app since long before Yahoo & the pedos ‘ruined’ it & it’s taken a few years but I love this site just as I did in 2012. It’s not quite as unmonitored as it used to be, but for gods sake there was a TON of child pornography all over the site. I would hope that if my child had lewd photos/videos leaked all over the internet, other adults would empathize and prioritize making Tumblr safe for kids over having an unmonitored blogging app. Yeah it can be irritating that certain things are no longer ‘okayed’ by the site, but to keep CHILDREN safer, it’s totally worth it. The content posted on my blogs hasn’t slipped in quality, ever. I have always been able to keep up the aesthetic I want on my blogs & if that’s the case, idk why people are mad over being monitored more. The app works just as it was designed to do, and it appears Tumblr has made an effort to correct the design flaws that allowed for so much child pornography to be distributed while tactfully keeping the same atmosphere that made tumblr the best social media app in the first place. This app is a happy place for me to recollect myself mentally and put myself into the mindset I want, and for that I am extremely thankful.
God help me
I could frankly care less about whatever features the app has or what kind of content is allowed in the rules. As long as I get to scroll mindlessly through my dash and occasionally spit out the odd text post that nobody will read, I’m pretty much set. So here’s the thing: I’ve got a phone and an iPad, both of which are ancient by technology standards. Probably not a decade old, but they can’t be far at this point. The app works fine on them. Glitchier than most I’ve used, but I can still do all two of the things I usually do on tumblr with ease, so I can look past it. With all that said, WHY does the app crash incessantly on my brand new phone? It’s the only app I have that does this, so I know the phone itself isn’t the problem. It freezes if I exit out of the app for a bit, sometimes if I reblog a post or look in the notes, it’ll freeze if I look at someone’s blog too long. The only thing I can do that doesn’t have a chance of crashing the app is scroll – and even then I can’t go down TOO far. I’m genuinely confused at how this app functions perfectly fine on the oldest devices that I have, and yet can’t seem to stay open for longer than ten minutes at a time on a two day old phone. I’m open to any reasonable explanations for this, because I’m honestly at a loss, but mostly I just hope this gets resolved soon. I can’t use my iPad out of the house and I absolutely refuse to redownload Twitter. This hellsite is my one source of entertainment, man, cmon

Tumblr was removed from Apple’s App Store over child …

Tumblr says that child pornography was the reason for its app’s sudden disappearance from the iOS App Store. The app has been missing from the store since November 16th, but until now the reason for its absence was unclear — initially Tumblr simply said it was “working to resolve the issue with the iOS app. ” However, after approached Tumblr with sources claiming that the reason was related to the discovery of child pornography on the service, the Yahoo-owned social media network issued a new statement confirming the matter.
In its updated statement, Tumblr said that while every image uploaded to the platform is “scanned against an industry database of child sexual abuse material” to filter out explicit images, a “routine audit” discovered content that was absent from the database, allowing it to slip through the filter. Although Tumblr says the content was immediately removed, its app continues to be unavailable on the App Store. It’s still available in the Google Play store for Android users, however.
Tumblr has been noted for having a permissive attitude towards NSFW and adult-orientated content on its service, which has previously caused it to be briefly banned in Indonesia. However, child pornography is a completely different matter. Apple’s iOS guidelines clearly state that all apps must have a content filter to screen out such material, and it seems Tumblr’s existing system wasn’t up to this standard. Although the company has said getting its app reinstated is its “top priority, ” it was unable to give any clear timeframe for its return.
