13 Best Residential VPN Providers for 2021 - EarthWeb

13 Best Residential VPN Providers for 2021 – EarthWeb

Most VPN providers obtain the IP addresses they give to their users from either their personal data centers or some other rented ones.
This puts users at a disadvantage because such IP addresses are easily detected and blocked.
It becomes an issue for VPN users that is common with conventional data center VPNs.
However, this can be avoided by using a VPN that routes traffic through residential IP addresses like your licensed internet service providers.
With residential VPNs, users appear online as regular users using a standard network provider IP address and can still access different online services from other locations.
This helps solve the problem of restrictions and all sorts of blocks. If this is the kind of VPN you need, then you might consider using a residential VPN.

What is a Residential VPN?
A residential VPN is a virtual private network that works by routing users’ internet traffic through a different IP address.
Residential VPNs are the type of VPNs that channel and redirect requests via residential IP addresses made available by Internet Service Providers (ISP). They provide users a higher level of anonymity when compared to a conventional data center VPN.
Residential VPNs are fast becoming one of the most promising and reliable prospects to bypass cyberspace restrictions. They ensure that users can perform their activities on the internet at better efficiency and speed.
Their anti-spam evasion techniques are also better than that of the conventional data center VPNs and a more preferred choice by VPN users.
Reasons to Use Residential VPNs
Just like conventional VPNs, residential VPNs also help to hide your location. They mask your IP address but give you a different IP address which is that of an internet service provider from a different geographic location.
With this, users can surf the Internet freely without getting blocked or restricted, unlike traditional VPNs. Irrespective of the service you are looking to access, residential VPNs will get you through it.
They also offer top-quality privacy, making it difficult for people online and even the government or your internet service provider to find out your location.
Residential VPNs also protect you from phishing attacks from malicious websites, ads, and bugs.
Users of residential VPNs also have strong protection against loss or theft of vital information such as saved passwords, browser history, and banking information.
Are Residential VPNs Legal?
The answer to this is yes. Residential VPNs are 100% legal unless the part of the world you reside in restricts their usage.
In general, the use of all types of VPNs is legal in almost all countries worldwide. However, the intention of the user can be subjected to be illegal or legal.
Therefore, before using a VPN, consider the purpose of use. If the objective is unlawful and you are caught, no one would blame the illegal activity on the VPN Company.
How to Get a Free Residential VPN Service
In case you are new to the use of VPNs, you should be aware that you can get free Residential VPNs from a lot of providers and sources.
You can visit your Chrome store, Appstore, or Playstore and download a free VPN. Once you register with the VPN providers, you have access to their services.
Some VPN providers do not have an app, meaning you will have to set it up manually or register on their website.
Differences Between Residential VPN over Conventional Data Center VPN
Residential VPNs offer all the benefits that a regular VPN provides. Users can enjoy complete security, anonymity, and online protection for their information and identity.
However, residential VPNs still offer some advantages over conventional data center VPNs.
Just exceptionally few traditional center of data VPNs can provide exceptional and outclass services, unlike most residential VPNs.
Here are some of the differences between residential VPNs and traditional data center VPNs.
Legitimacy
Residential VPNs offer more legitimacy when compared to conventional data center VPNs.
This is because they have internet service providers to provide their IP addresses directly, unlike the cloud server IP addresses the traditional data center VPNs use.
Cost
Most residential VPNs are free, and so are the IP addresses offered to users. Whereas, with the conventional data center VPNs, you have to pay top dollars to subscribe to most of their plans.
Also, if the cost of purchasing a paid residential VPN is compared to that of the conventional data center VPNs, there is a significant difference, as the residential VPNs are cheaper.
Speed
Residential VPNs are at a disadvantage when it comes to speed because the conventional data center VPNs are always faster.
The reason for this is that residential VPNs use a small server network, which will not offer users high-speed connections.
If having access to a great speed connection is one of your reasons for using a VPN, getting a residential VPN might not give you the best results.
Conclusion
Residential VPNs are better for unblocking websites when compared to datacenter IP address VPNs.
They are also far better for avoiding detection, lightning-fast speed, anonymity, and unblocking streaming services than datacenter IP address VPNs.
There are just a few datacenter IP address VPNs like ExpressVPN that can compete with residential VPNs in the stated services.
A significant benefit of residential VPNs is that they are mostly free, and the paid ones are also quite affordable. To immensely enjoy residential VPNs, it is best to go for the paid VPNs.
They have no speed limit, making them super-fast; they are more secure, reliable, and offer no advertisements.
The only issue one might have with residential VPNs is that they might occasionally suffer from drops. However, this is not much of a problem.

Datacenter VPNs or Residential VPNs – what’s the Difference?
We are going to take a bit of time to talk about the biggest differences between datacenter VPNs and residential VPNs, so that you can make a well-informed decision about which ones suit you better.
Legitimacy
Residential VPNs are more legitimate than datacenter VPNs because the internet server provides them directly, whereas IP addresses from datacenters use cloud server addresses. This means that they can easily be detected, and therefore blacklisted.
However, there are many datacenter VPNs out there that make sure that their IP addresses are rotated consistently so that their users aren’t going to get blacklisted IP addresses time and again.
Price
Because residential IP addresses offer you a higher level of anonymity, they are of course going to cost you more than datacenter addresses. Also, if you plan on purchasing more than one IP address at the same time, you might want to go for datacenter IP addresses, because they are going to be cheaper overall.
Speed
The thing about residential VPNs is that their server network is usually a lot smaller, which means that they can’t offer their clients high speed internet connections.
If you want a good connection speed, then you will need to go for a datacenter VPN, because they offer a good speed for tasks that need to be achieved in a shorter amount of time.
Whether you are using a datacenter or a residential VPN, you are going to get the security, online protection and anonymity that you are looking for. However, if we think about accessibility and cost, then datacenter IP addresses are going to be more appealing.
However, not all of them are able to provide you with the quality that you need and deserve. This is why we have compiled a list above for you to get a good gauge on what the best providers are in the industry for residential IP addresses. If you want to stay safe online, at some point you are going to need a residential VPN provider.
FAQs

To get a good residential IP address, subscribe to one of the VPN providers on the list above or a proxy service, and once you’ve done this, you can download and install the app on your device.
Then, log into the app using the provider’s credentials, and connect and locate any server based on your location. This is it – now you’re connected to a residential IP address.
Is a Residential VPN Legal?
Yes, residential VPNs are legal, but the activity that you might be trying to implement online might be illegal.
Therefore, you need to make sure that you know the rules of the country that you are trying to surf the internet in, otherwise, you could end up in hot water.
How Do I Get a Free Residential VPN?

6 Best VPNs for a Dedicated IP or Static IP – Comparitech

Dynamic IP addresses, which are commonly allocated by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), wifi routers, company networks, and VPNs, can cause you problems. A dedicated IP address or static IP address is often preferred. Find out why and learn about the best VPNs for a static or dedicated IP address.
@VPN_News UPDATED: March 31, 2021
A dynamic IP address system works in such a way that you won’t always be assigned the same IP address. Many ISPs use dynamic IP addresses as it is more efficient (and feasible) than assigning each person a static IP address (one that doesn’t change). The latter might be preferred from a user standpoint in certain situations. A dedicated IP address is a static IP address that is assigned to just one individual and not shared by anyone else.
VPNs also typically use dynamic IP addresses, but some also offer the option of a static IP address or a dedicated IP address. Short for virtual private network, a VPN encrypts your internet traffic and routes it through an intermediary server in a location of your choice. It masks your current IP address and replaces it with a new one from that location. If a VPN gives you a shared static IP address, you’ll get the same one each time you connect to a specific server, but it will be shared with other users. If you get a dedicated IP address, it won’t be shared with anyone else.
Not all VPNs offer the option of static or dedicated IP addresses and not all of those that do are worth the money. In this post, we reveal the best VPNs for a static or dedicated IP address and explain more about the different options and their advantages.

Best VPNs for dedicated and static IP addresses
Here is our list of the five best VPNs for dedicated or static IP addresses:
1. NordVPN
Oct 2021
Apps Available:
PC
Mac
IOS
Android
Linux
NordVPN offers shared IP addresses with a limited number of addresses available for each server. The app enables you to choose exactly which server to connect to. The system will allocate you to one of its IP addresses, so even if you consistently connect to the same server, you won’t always get the same IP address.
The standard NordVPN service gives you a shared IP address, so many other users who are connected to the same server will have the same IP address. This situation is no good if you want to receive incoming connections.
You can pay extra to get a dedicated IP address; locations available include the US (four cities), the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. You can still also use the shared IP service, which has more than 5, 000 servers in 62 countries and you can connect up to six devices to the shared service simultaneously. This is a great VPN for accessing websites that operate cross-border access restrictions, such as Netflix.
NordVPN offers an array of security features and its website has an extensive knowledge base as well as access to 24/7 support via live chat. The VPN apps can be installed on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android devices. There is also a NordVPN browser extension available for Chrome and Firefox.
Pros:
Seven location options for dedicated IP addresses
Wider shared service that uses a small IP addresses pool
Decent speeds
Secure, private service
Good value for money
Huge network of servers spanning 62 countries
Cons:
Connection to some servers can be slow
BEST VPN FOR A STATIC OR DEDICATED IP ADDRESS:NordVPN offers static IP addresses in its basic service and a dedicated IP address as an addon. It’s a fast, secure service, with excellent customer support. NordVPN offers a 30-day no-fuss money-back guarantee with each subscription so you can try it risk-free.

2. Surfshark
Surfshark has more than 1, 700 servers in 63 countries and allows you to get a static IP address from five countries (Germany, the US, the UK, Japan, and Singapore) at no added cost. Speeds are generally quite impressive and as there’s no connection limit, you can get a static IP address on every device you own if you’d like to.
This VPN takes your security seriously, as evidenced by its use of 256-bit encryption, DNS and IPv6 leak protection, and kill switch. Those aren’t the only tools it has up its sleeve, though: there’s also an automatic malware scanner, a NoBorders mode (for bypassing strict online blocking), and a strict no-logging policy. Surfshark offers round-the-clock support via email and live chat.
Surfshark provides apps for Android, MacOS, Windows, iOS, and Linux devices. Additionally, it can be manually configured for select network routers.
Provides fast static servers at no added cost
Top-notch security features
Puts your privacy first
Wide range of security features
24/7 live chat available
Servers vary in terms of speed

3. CyberGhost
CyberGhost recently added a dedicated IP option to its service that users can add for an extra fee. CyberGhost’s dedicated IP is more private than other providers because the company does not know what IP address it has assigned you. Instead, users are given a token. Users redeem the token in their app, which allows you to connect to your dedicated IP with no ties to your CyberGhost account.
The downside to this approach is that you only get one token. If you lose it, you’ll no longer have access to your dedicated IP. You’ll need the token whenever you activate a new CyberGhost app or reinstall an existing app.
CyberGhost users get more than 60 countries to choose from. It meets all of our performance and security standards including strong encryption, leak protection, and a kill switch. It’s great for unblocking region-locked content and speeds are fast enough for HD video streaming. CyberGhost doesn’t store any identifying logs about its users or their online activity.

PureVPN operates VPN servers in 141 countries. Dedicated IP addresses are available in the UK, the US, Canada, Germany, Malta, Australia, Hong Kong, and Singapore. This service is a paid extra on top of a regular subscription. The standard PureVPN service is great for bypassing government internet restrictions when you’re in China.
PureVPN has fast speeds and comes with top-notch security, including 256-bit encryption and a kill switch. It’s had some bad press in the past for keeping logs but currently keeps no record of personally identifiable information. The service is great for dodging detection at a long list of sites that operate regional restrictions, including Netflix.
The service includes apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android devices and browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox. PureVPN is available as a Kodi addon and there are apps for Android TV boxes, Amazon Fire TV, and Amazon Fire Stick.
Five devices can be connected simultaneously. You can only use the dedicated IP address once at any one time, but you can use that shared service allowance for your other devices.

You can get a dedicated IP address for the US (five locations), the UK, Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Romania, Sweden; Bulgaria, and Hong Kong. This is the largest choice of all of the VPNs on our list. This service is a paid extra to the standard subscription.
This service includes military-grade encryption, leak protection, and a kill switch. An unusual allowance of VPNArea is that the company doesn’t mind if you share an account with a friend, which is a no-no for most VPNs.
Apps are easy to use and install on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, CentOS, and Mint Linux. The company runs specialized servers for downloading and streaming video. Customer support is available via online chat around-the-clock every day of the year. 6. Windscribe
Windscribe doesn’t offer dedicated IP addresses but you can get a static IP address as a paid addon. By upgrading to the static IP service, you are guaranteed to get the same IP address every time you connect to a server, but you will share the IP address with other users.
You cut down the number of the people that you share the VPN service with if you pay for the static IP address extra because you use addresses that are only accessible to those higher plan subscribers. The basic static IP service uses a data center IP address. A higher cost option gives you an IP address that was registered at a residential address — some geo-restricted services will block access to commercial IP addresses.
This is a great service for getting around the regional restrictions operated by some websites and the company has specialist servers for access to US Netflix and UK Netflix.
Windscribe apps are available for Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and CentOS. Extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera browsers.
The wider network includes servers in 60 countries and there is no limit to the number of devices you can connect to the service simultaneously.

Dynamic and static IP addresses explained
On a typical residential internet service, you don’t get the same IP address every time you connect. Instead, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will allocate you an address from a pool that it owns. This system was invented to slow down the exhaustion of IPv4 addresses. The assumption is that the number of ISP customers that are connected at any one time is always lower than the total number of customers. Thus, the ISP can get away with owning fewer addresses by using a dynamic addressing system.
ISPs don’t usually use this system for commercial customers, particularly for those customers that run their own web servers. This is because the advertised IP address that is registered in DNS servers gets linked to the URL used for the company’s website. In these scenarios, the company would have to update every DNS server in the world whenever the ISP allocated a different address to the company’s connection service. This would be too complicated, so companies usually get a dedicated IP address for their web servers.
Many VPNs also assign dynamic IP addresses. Usually, VPN services own a small number of addresses for each of their servers. They allocate groups of customers at random to each of the addresses that they own as users connect. Some VPN services offer static IP addresses, by default or as an option.
A shared static IP address VPN service has advantages over the standard dynamic IP service. Where a static IP address is an optional addon, these addresses will tend to get less use than their dynamic counterparts. You might still have your internet freedom impaired owing to the actions of the other people sharing that IP address, but with fewer users sharing, the likelihood of that address ending up on a blacklist is going to be reduced.
The shared static IP address model is offered as standard on NordVPN’s service. This configuration doesn’t really give you many advantages over the dynamic IP address system offered by other VPNs. The only extra protection that you get from such a configuration is that if that one shared VIP address gets blacklisted, all of the customers of NordVPN are going to be crippled, so it is more likely that the company will change that address pretty quickly.
Many VPN companies refuse to offer dedicated IP addresses. This is because they are concerned with protecting the identities of their customers. Even if a VPN company didn’t keep IP address logs, a one-to-one mapping between a representative dedicated IP address and a customer can be uncovered very quickly through customer account details if anyone gets a court order for the VPN’s records. Any type of shared address formula enables the VPN provider a chance of blocking the traceability of connections through to the end user.
Dedicated IP addresses and their advantages
A dedicated IP address is not shared and is only assigned to one customer. There are various scenarios where a dedicated IP address might be useful, for example, for running a business or gaming.
Not everyone is looking for total anonymity. In particular, those who want their servers to be discovered don’t want privacy. The dedicated IP address is the quickest, cheapest, and easiest way to overcome the effects of the dynamic address allocation system that ISPs use.
With a dedicated IP address VPN, you can front your small business web server with a larger server that is capable of absorbing DDoS attacks and you can use a much cheaper residential internet service plan.
Privacy-conscious individuals can use the VPN as an address for a home games server and also get a fixed IP address that will enable them to connect to home computers running as file servers. With a dedicated IP address service, you can advertise your home server’s address without the worry of that address being changed periodically.
