While we all want unscrupulous sellers to be banned as soon as possible to avoid giving eBay a bad reputation, sometimes honest sellers make mistakes or eBay on hold to handle a life crisis. If you have been suspended from eBay, re-registering for a new account is not the best way to get back on the site.
Steps After eBay Account Suspended
eBay has sophisticated tools for connecting accounts to one another. Once eBay has marked you as an eBay user who has tried to open multiple accounts, your name and personal information will be on file and you can be blacklisted. This is the last thing you want to happen, especially if you depend on eBay for income rather than just hobby selling.
Once you have been blacklisted, getting back on eBay is nearly impossible. eBay is diligent about keeping the site clean and free of scammers. eBay will have personal information on file about you so they can match up your new account with your old suspended account. Information includes:

eBay frowns on sellers having multiple accounts. It is fine to have multiple stores, in fact, some sellers have up to eight different stores as a way to separate different kinds of inventory or keep income streams separate from each other.
But eBay is vigilant about keeping repeat offenders off the site. So it is not a wise move to try to immediately open a new account because that effort may fail and you will be in an even worse situation than if you contacted eBay to explain what happened.
Contact eBay Directly
Members who are suspended by eBay are suspended for legitimate reasons. Usually, a suspension is due to a rule violation, failure to pay fees or one of seven reasons eBay outlines in their terms of services. If you have been suspended, call eBay directly at 1-866-540-3229 and ask about ways to resolve the outstanding issues on your account.
Don’t be afraid to call eBay and discuss the issue. They know sellers are real people with real lives and things happen. Sometimes being reinstated is as easy as paying your fees because your credit or debit card on file has expired and it just needs to be updated. Calling and talking to an eBay customer service representative can be time-consuming, frustrating and exhausting. If you have a legitimate reason why your performance was not satisfactory, eBay may reinstate your account right away.
Be Honest and Explain Your Unique Situation
The most important thing to remember when trying to have your eBay account reinstated is to be honest and get the representative on the phone to see you as a real person who has had a life crisis or personal issue that affected your ability to run your business. eBay wants to know that you realize you made an error and that you want to follow eBay’s policy in the future. Some real reasons why your account may have slipped include:

eBay is not the monster many people make them out to be. They understand that things happen in sellers’ lives and their business may be affected by a personal tragedy or crisis. Once eBay has reinstated your account, you will be allowed to sell again using your old account.
After eBay Reinstatement
Once you have gone through this process, you will value your eBay selling privileges more than ever. Be careful not to let your account slip. While it is difficult to think straight during a personal crisis, you can always put your eBay store on vacation while you deal with personal issues. Or, you can extend your handling time to a very long time period, such as 30 days, until you get your life sorted out again.

Why your account was suspended or restricted
Holds, restrictions, or suspensions are usually placed on accounts for one of the following reasons:
You have eBay selling costs to pay
You need to reimburse eBay for a refund or a claim paid to your buyer
You have violated one of our rules or policies
We couldn’t verify your account information
How to have your account reinstated
Getting your account reinstated may be as simple as waiting for a temporary suspension to finish, making changes to your listings, or sending us some more information-it depends on the reason we suspended your account. The full details will be in the message we’ve sent you.
If your account was restricted or suspended because of outstanding seller costs or a refund reimbursement, you can make a one-time payment to resolve the issue. When we receive your payment, your account will be reinstated.
To make a one-time payment:
Go to Payments – opens in new window or tab in My eBay or Seller Hub.
Select One-time payment to make a payment
Aternatively you can add a new payment method
If eBay doesn’t currently manage your payments, you may also need to complete seller registration before your account will become fully reinstated.
Tip
Most account restrictions or suspensions can be resolved by making a one-time payment or by following the steps we gave you in the email in your Messages.
What happens while an account is suspended
When your eBay account is suspended, you won’t be able to:
bid, buy, or sell
leave feedback
create new listings or revise existing listings
contact bidders
reply to your eBay messages
receive payouts
If you’re a seller, your payouts will be placed on hold until the hold, restriction or suspension on your account is lifted.
Any bidders on your existing listings can retract their bids. When your account is reinstated, you’ll be able to leave feedback for any transactions you completed in the previous 30 days.
Depending on why your account was suspended, we may end listings early. If we remove listings because of a policy violation, eligibility for a fee credit will depend on the situation and any previous policy violations will be taken into account. These credits can be viewed by going to Payments within My eBay or Seller Hub. Keep in mind that listing fees can be forfeited too, depending on the reason for suspension.
Account verification holds
When you start selling on eBay, we need to confirm your identity and checking account details so you can receive your payouts. We may place a temporary hold on your account until we can verify your details. Once verification is complete, we’ll email you to let you know has been lifted and you can start selling.
Fake account hold and suspension notices

Suspension from eBay is possibly every seller’s worst nightmare. And unfortunately, it can happen quickly too. For this reason, every eBay seller should be aware of the risk of suspension and the process of appealing if the worst happens. Understanding first why eBay suspends some sellers is integral to avoiding the situation.
Why eBay accounts are suspended
There are three main reasons why a seller’s eBay account would be suspended:
Not paying eBay back for a refund eBay made to a buyer on the seller’s behalf
Late payment of fees (or payment method on file has expired)
Serious violation of one of eBay’s policies and procedures
Some examples of the latter include (but are not limited to):
Selling counterfeit (fake), recalled or prohibited items
Falling below eBay’s seller performance standards
Using stock photos in a listing
Feedback extortion
Infringement of eBay’s VERO policies
Attempting to sell items offline, outside of eBay
Shill bidding
eBay seller suspension
On suspension, eBay usually sends the seller an email detailing the reasons for taking action and instructions for reinstatement (if applicable). This email can also be found in the My eBay > Messages inbox. If your account is suspended but no email has been received, be sure to double check your spam/junk folder before contacting eBay.
Note – Be careful to check the suspension email carefully to make sure that it is directly from eBay. Scammers sometimes create fake suspension notices to trick eBay sellers into sharing their log-in details.
While suspended, eBay sellers cannot bid, sell or leave feedback. Sellers are also not able to contact buyers through Messages or reply to questions.
What to do if your eBay account is suspended
No matter the reason for the suspension, there are a few steps to take after receiving the fateful email.
Try to stay calm and evaluate situation
Being suspended from your eBay account may come as quite a shock, especially if eBay is your main or sole source of income. Getting angry or into a panic, however, will not help the situation. In the instance of late fees, for example, getting a reinstatement may be an easy fix. For more serious violations, take a step back and have a good think about the reasons why you may have been suspended.
Some things to consider:
Are the reasons stated in the email from eBay correct?
If so, why did this violation happen?
Is eBay missing important information that may change the suspension decision?
Follow the instructions in the email sent from eBay
If applicable, eBay will include instructions for reinstatement of your account in the initial suspension email.
Sellers suspended for late payment of fees can make a one-time payment to clear the account. If a refund is owed to eBay, a reimbursement method needs to be set up before the suspension can be reversed. In the instance that a payment method has expired, a simple update is all that is required.
Gather information and evidence before appealing
It may be tempting to reply to eBay’s email straight away. This is a bad idea, however, as it is unlikely to produce a well reasoned and professional response. It is a much better plan to take a breath and carefully consider the evidence you may be able to appeal your case with. Keep the email as succinct as possible, clearly highlighting the most relevant information. Be honest about your mistakes, if applicable.
As an alternative to an email (or in addition to), sellers can also directly call eBay to discuss the suspension. When calling, have the following information to hand:
eBay user ID
Date and reference number of the original suspension email
The email address associated with your eBay account
It may be a good idea to have the suspension email printed out for easy reference while on the phone.
What NOT to do when suspended from eBay
Sellers should avoid the following actions after an eBay account suspension:
Open a new account: Registering a new account while suspended is not allowed. If a suspended seller does so, the new account (and indeed, any others opened using the same IP address) will also be suspended. Selling on eBay again is not possible until the suspension has been resolved.
Get mad: While this may be much easier said than done, getting angry doesn’t help the situation. By selling on eBay, sellers accept that eBay makes the rules and is allowed to enforce them. A suspension is incredibly frustrating but eBay is within their rights to remove sellers from the marketplace.
Act demanding: Be smart, professional and assertive when in communication with eBay about your suspension, not rude. Call centre staff are people too! The first person you speak to on the customer service line may not have the authority or knowledge to help with suspensions so do not be afraid to ask for a supervisor if the discussion doesn’t seem to lead anywhere.
How to avoid suspension when selling on eBay
Prevention is the best solution to suspension. Simply put, the easiest way to avoid suspension on eBay is to follow correct procedure and policy. With rules changing so often, however, this often feels difficult even for veteran eBay sellers. The best thing to do is to regularly check eBay’s rules and policies page as well as the seasonal seller updates. In addition, be sure to take time to fully understand eBay’s seller defect system. Make it a habit to check your Seller Dashboard regularly and take action quickly when necessary.
