How can I make my account private?: help – Reddit

I would like to be able to post to subreddits and ask questions without people looking at my profile and judging me for my posts that I have made and not have people calling me a train wreck. Is there any way to make my account private? This thread is archivedNew comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast
level 1I’m sick of after posting something, weirdos will message me after trawling though my post history and comment on personal things I might have posted about. Now I’m having to go through my history and delete everything that can be used by a fucking creepy 1 · 3yYou can create a throwaway account and post on that, there’s no anonymity on 1That’s what your alternate account is 1 · 3yNo such thing. How To Enable Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing Mode… – KnowYourMobile

With Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing Mode, you can browse the platform anonymously, in case, y’know, you’re “researching a gift for your partner” or something…
As information platforms go, Reddit is up there with the best of them. I can spend hours perusing subreddits, finding new topics to follow, and catching up on the latest news (usually before its news).
If you’re a Reddit user, you will have an account – an account that has a user name and has karma associated with it.
And this is good. You want a Reddit account. With an account, you can comment, gain Reddit karma, and message and interact with other Reddit users.
But what if you want to browse the platform anonymously? What if you fancy looking at some NSFW stuff and you don’t want it appearing inside your account’s history?
The solution is simple: activate Reddit’s anonymous browsing mode. Here’s how it’s done.
How To Activate Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing Feature
Accessing reddit’s anonymous browsing feature is really simple, but it is kind of hidden away. I only happened across it by accident which leads to be believe that reddit doesn’t really want you using it.
How To Enable Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing Mode
Either way, once you know where it is it is simple to activate: open the Reddit app > tap the drop down icon below your profile name > select Anonymous Browsing.
And that’s all there is to it; you can now browse reddit privately, none of your searches or search results will be stored to your profile, so no more having to delete your history and searches.
How Private is Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing Feature?
Here’s the official line via Reddit:
Anonymous Browsing allows you to browse content on the Reddit mobile app without associating your activity (like your searches or the communities you view) with your Reddit
With Reddit’s Anonymous Browsing enabled, Reddit will not:
Save your browsing or search history to your Reddit accountUse your Reddit activity to personalize your recommendationsUse your Reddit activity to send you personalized notifications
Pretty good, right?
And to switch back to your normal profile, simply repeat the above process – tap the drop-down icon below your profile name > select Your Profile – and it’ll revert back to your normal profile.
Keep in mind that using Anonymous Browsing on Reddit doesn’t affect how your activity is handled by internet providers, your mobile device, or other websites you may visit in or from the Reddit mobile app (including via the in-app browser)
To stop your ISP from seeing what you’re doing online you’ll need a VPN.
Anonymous Browsing was initially launched on Android first but is now available on iOS too, so you can access it on iPhone and iPad.
As far as I’m aware, Anonymous Browsing is not yet available on the desktop version of Reddit.
I tried to find it but couldn’t find the setting anywhere.
Either way, at least you can browse some of reddit’s more exotic subreddits privately.
Happy redditing!

The social media site will roll out a feature that will tell you which users follow your account. Currently, you can only view how many followers you have, but not their specific user handles.
Reddit is preparing to do away with a feature that some believe facilitates stalking and harassment: anonymous followers.
The social media site will soon tell you which users follow your account. Currently, you can only view how many followers you have, not their specific user handles.
“We collect a lot of feedback from you all, and one theme we’ve heard consistently from users is that many of you want more visibility when users follow you, ” said Reddit product manager Mayank Jain.
“Currently, any user can follow any other user, and it happens anonymously, ” Jain explained. “For example, I have 84 followers. I have no idea who they are and I find that to be a little bit creepy. Having this transparency let’s me know if they are people I have interacted with before on Reddit. ”
Your follower list will only be viewable to you—not by anyone else.
“If you are someone who follows other users, please take a second to examine your subscription/follow list and make sure you are comfortable with those users being aware that you follow them, ” Jain wrote in the announcement.
Still, some users have been calling on the forum site to do more to stop online harassment. This includes adding a tool to block online trolls in bulk, and an option to make a user account unfollowable. “Having followers, especially anonymously, just sets up a perfect opportunity for stalking and harassment, ” wrote one user in response to the announcement. There’s also nothing to stop someone from creating a fake account to follow and continue to harass Reddit users.
In the thread, Jain tried to address some of the concerns. “We have updates to the blocking feature planned, but no specifics to announce yet, ” he wrote.

Other users are concerned Reddit is moving away from its roots as a forum that offered more anonymity over typical social networking sites. “Reddit is a community, not a social media. Leave it like that. If I want to be on a social media, I’ll go to Instagram, ” one person wrote.
The change will begin taking effect on Aug. 29, starting first with new follows made on the site. Your full list of followers will become available in three months. To view your follower account, you need to be using the new Reddit interface.
