ExpressVPN Demo
ExpressVPN is the perfect companion to Crunchyroll. Super-fast speeds and unlimited downloading ensure a smooth streaming experience. And top-notch security and privacy features give you peace of mind to access geo-restricted streaming content securely. In addition to reliably unblocking Crunchyroll, ExpressVPN also easily unblocks Netflix, Hulu, Prime, BBC iPlayer, and many other popular streaming services from all over the globe. Funnily enough, I first got interested in VPNs when I learned they could help me check out anime titles I didn’t have access to in the UK. ExpressVPN was the first service I tried – and it didn’t disappoint. Being able to pick a specific location in the US was especially helpful (East Coast servers were closer, and faster, than their West Coast cousins), and knowing that ExpressVPN has a fully audited no-logs policy was the cherry on top. The ExpressVPN apps are incredibly easy to use and are fully-featured with access to obfuscated servers, a kill-switch, and DNS leak protection. This makes it ideal for streaming on sites like Putlockers or for downloading files via BitTorrent. With servers located in 94 countries worldwide, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to bypassing geographic restrictions around the world. ExpressVPN will keep you fully secure both at home as well as on public WiFi. You can give ExpressVPN a risk-free trial run thanks to its generous 30-day money-back guarantee. Nord Demo
NordVPN is a provider that comes with a long list of advanced VPN features. This is pretty mind-blowing considering the low cost of the VPN. When it comes to accessing content, NordVPN has servers in 62 countries around the world – and those servers will unblock popular services such as Crunchyroll, Netflix, BBC iPlayer, Hulu, and many more. Plus it provides excellent speeds, which means you will not have to deal with frustrating buffering. We fully recommend NordVPN for Crunchyroll thanks to its almost 2, 000 servers located in the USA. The volume of servers means it’s a dream to stream with, and NordVPN’s consistent speeds mean you and we won’t have to deal with pesky buffering just to watch our favourite Crunchyroll shows. NordVPN has obfucated servers to let you bypass proxy detection systems. And, because it has a kill switch, you can trust it for downloading from Torrent repositories. NordVPN even has a 30-day money-back guarantee which gives you plenty of time to test the service before you are fully locked in. Plus, Nord VPN lets you use the VPN on upto six simultaneous devices, which makes it good for people with a lot of devices. Surprisingly cheap for what you get. CyberGhost is a great value choice for Crunchyroll. It has solid speeds & US servers in 12 different locations – plenty of choice to unblock Crunchyroll. CyberGhost Demo
CyberGhost VPN is an outstanding VPN pick for anybody looking to expand their anime horizons! VPN newbies will also enjoy the service and its user-friendly apps – which make unblocking more Crunchyroll titles that much easier. Setting up the service is extremely simple, and you’ll benefit from a full roster of robust VPN features, a zero-logs policy, and military-grade encryption to protect your privacy. There are thousands of servers to choose from in 90 different countries, meaning you can unblock almost anything you can think of from all over the world. Plus, CyberGhost is based in Romania, which means that it is safely out of reach from invasive jurisdictions like the USA and the UK. And considering that this VPN is cheap, it does include premium security features like a kill-switch and DNS leak protection; meaning that it is more than suitable for securing your digital privacy, whether you’re at home or using public WiFi. Admittedly, this VPN isn’t the fastest service on our list, but you’ll still be able to stream more Crunchyroll content – and without pesky buffering issues. CyberGhost is well worth testing out, so put that 45-day money-back guarantee to the test. What’s more, the VPN can be used on up to 7 devices simultaneously, which is very generous indeed. We’ve used faster VPNs in our time, but CyberGhost is by no means a slouch. What’s more, we found in our tests that it’s one of the best out there when it comes to unblocking hard-to-access, geo-restricted sites. We connected through a number of different locations in the US and Crunchyroll has played pretty smoothly each time. As well as this, we’ve not found many VPNs with optimized servers for Crunchyroll – but CyberGhost does! Within their apps, CyberGhost lists what servers are optimized for popular streaming services, all you have to do is search for the service you want to unblock in the app. This makes it super-easy to unblock streaming sites. Private Internet Access is one of the most secure VPN options for Crunchyroll. It offers excellent security features that help with unblocking Crunchyroll. Pricing 38 month special + Antivirus: $2/mth 38 month: $2. 08/mth 12 month: $3. 33/mth 1 month: $12/mth Speeds 23. 98 Mbps Server locations 74 countries Also unblocks Netflix iPlayer Amazon Prime Hulu Available for Windows macOS iOS Android Linux
PIA Demo
Private Internet Access (PIA) is an established provider that has had a stellar reputation for years. It is a trusted no-logs service that always provides privacy despite being based in the US (which always puts some people off due to the presence of the NSA). PIA has servers in 74 countries, and during my tests we found all those servers to connect quickly and be stable. This makes it great for unblocking Crunchyroll to watch HD anime streams. We checked under the hood and found that the VPN uses OpenVPN UDP by default, which is ideal for streaming. However, it is also possible to switch on to WireGuard, which will likely give you even better speeds if you do want to stream in HD. We changed onto WireGuard and was happy with the outcome. We also tested Netflix US and found it to work perfectly. As a result, we can strongly recommend this service for streaming (though we were slightly sad that it didn’t work with BBC iPlayer on my Kodi). All in all, this is a superb all-around VPN, whether you want the ability to unblock geo-restricted streams or want privacy from government snoops – and privacy from Wi-Fi hotspot providers. In my personal experience, the service worked perfectly for all these purposes. PIA used to suffer from being a bit on the sluggish side. However, those issues have now been fixed, and we found it to be good for gaming, streaming anime, and doing video calls on Skype or Zoom. A cheap VPN that is definitely worth testing using its 30-day money-back guarantee. Surfshark is a cheap VPN pick for unblocking Crunchyroll. But despite its budget price point, it doesn’t compromise on service, with US servers in 27 different cities. Pricing 24 month: $2. 49/mth 6 month: $6. 49/mth 1 month: $12. 95/mth Speeds 33. 85 Mbps Server locations 63 countries Also unblocks Netflix iPlayer Amazon Prime Hulu Free trial length 7 days Available for Windows macOS iOS Android Linux
Surfshark Demo
Surfshark is based in the British Virgin Islands, which puts it safely out of reach of invasive jurisdictions such as the US and the UK. It also has a strict zero-logs policy, which means it stores no records about what its users do online when connected to the service. This makes it ideal for privacy purposes. What’s more, Surfshark has robust security features such as a kill-switch and DNS leak protection. This makes it suitable for both streaming restricted content as well as for downloading from torrent sites like The Pirate Bay. Considering its low price point, Surfshark provides excellent speeds. This means you will be able to stream on Crunchyroll without any annoying buffering issues. We also love that this VPN has 24/7 live chat support – and let it be said that those agents are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. While you are likely here because you are interested in Crunchyroll, it is worth noting that this VPN will allow you to unblock Netflix US and BBC iPlayer (which has been ramping up its original content in the last few years! ). Plus, it can unblock a lot of other services around the globe as well. Another great thing is that Surfshark allows for unlimited simultaneous connections, so you can use it on all your devices at once! What we thought was really neat with Surfshark was its CleanWeb technology that essentially acts as an adblocker (as well as a malware blocker). When we flipped CleanWeb on and tested it with Crunchyroll, we were not bombarded with ads like I would be without it. It really worked like a charm. That, along with the military-grade encryption truly helped me secure my privacy and limit the ads I saw when streaming Crunchyroll content. We find Surfshark to be a VPN that is both cheap and useful, and that is definitely worth giving a test run using its 30-day money-back guarantee. VyprVPN is a great all-around VPN for Crunchyroll. Thanks to its Chameleon technology, there’s not many services it can’t unblock. Pricing 36 month: $1. 67/mth 18 month: $2. 5/mth 2 month: $6. 47/mth Speeds 37. 51 Mbps Server locations 70 countries Also unblocks Netflix iPlayer Amazon Prime Hulu Available for Windows macOS iOS Android Linux
VYPR Demo
VyprVPN offers two levels of service. You’ll want to go for the Premium package to get around Crunchyroll’s regional restrictions. Not many VPNs can get around the regional restrictions on media sites these days because streaming services scan arriving connection requests for signs of VPN usage and block any that are detected. We find using VyprVPN to unblock Crunchyroll a piece of cake; the provider has servers in a number of locations in the US. VyprVPN shows the ping times of each VPN server within its apps making it easy to find the best server for streaming Crunchyroll outside of the US. On top of this, we love that it uses the strongest VPN encryption around, as well as the fact it owns the entirety of its network. This latter point means VyprVPN can guarantee a level of security beyond what most VPNs promise. VyprVPN’s Chameleon technology reliably defeats all of these detection systems – even the most stringent – such as those operated by the government of China. With plenty of servers located in 70-countries around the world. And with fast servers that are perfect for streaming in HD, this VPN is a great choice for unblocking Crunchyroll. Test it out thanks to its 30-day money-back guarantee! IPVanish is a fast and reliable Crunchyroll VPN. Its network of proprietary servers means this VPN can unblock Crunchyroll and stream it in HD without buffering. Pricing 12 month: $3. 2/mth 1 month: $10. 99/mth Speeds 0. 00 Mbps Server locations 75 countries Also unblocks Netflix Amazon Prime Hulu Available for Windows macOS iOS Android Linux
IPVanish Demo
IPVanish is a reliable US-based VPN provider that is perfect for unblocking anime online. You can use it to pretend to be in the US to watch more Crunchyroll, or to access other anime streaming sites like KissAnime or Gogoanime in privacy. IPVanish has servers in over 75 countries, and it permits torrenting. This means you can also use your VPN to download anime movies if you want, on top of streaming with Crunchyroll. IPVanish has apps for all platforms which means you can unblock Crunchyroll on any device. And, because it is a no-logs VPN provider with OpenVPN encryption; you will never have to worry about your ISP tracking your online habits. We found IPVanish to be great at unblocking not just Crunchyroll, but also US Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. My connection speeds were more than adequate for streaming, whether we were using IPVanish on a laptop, mobile devices (tested on iOS and Android), or on a TV through using a VPN router. Best of all, we were able to set it up easily in just a few minutes on all my devices, and we were able to unblock content in no time at all. We enjoy using IPVanish because it has no problems streaming smoothly in HD. With that said, it is worth noting that it is not quite the fastest VPN we test. The good news, however, is that you can test it yourself to see how it works – using its 30-day money-back guarantee. ExpressVPN Discount Coupon Get 49% off now Comes with an additional 3 months Will a VPN work with Crunchyroll? Not all VPN providers work to unblock Crunchyroll. If you currently have a VPN that results in the following warning: Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region. Then you will need to get a subscription with a different service (or chat to your VPN’s customer support to see which server you need to use). In 2021, fewer VPNs than ever work with Crunchyroll. This is because the streaming service has ramped up its efforts to block IP addresses that belong to VPNs. The good news is that we test VPNs regularly to ensure they work with Crunchyroll, so all of our recommendations will work fine. In addition, they all have a money-back guarantee, so in the unlikely event that you can’t unblock Crunchyroll, you can simply get a refund. We are confident in our recommendations because these VPNs have been thoroughly tested against the toughest content blocks over the course of many years. The VPNs in this guide make it part of their core mission to unblock streams, and they constantly develop new ways to evade blocks. So stick to our recommendations, and you will be able to enjoy Crunchyroll. Will a VPN unblock the Crunchyroll app? All of our VPN recommendations work to unblock Crunchyroll, both via the website portal and using its Android and iOS app. These VPNs have custom apps for desktop and mobile devices, which makes them super easy to use. As a result, anybody can easily unblock Crunchyroll on a smartphone or tablet whether at home or on public WiFi. All you need to do is subscribe to the VPN and download the VPN app to your device to enjoy your expanded content library on Crunchyroll. What can You Unblock With a Crunchyroll VPN? You’re seriously missing out if you’re an anime fan who isn’t streaming on Crunchyroll! The site boasts over 900 anime shows, and more than 200 Asian dramas, and 50 manga titles, too. Crunchyroll caters to casual viewers and hardcore anime fans alike. You’ll find all sorts of shows, including popular titles in the West, such as My Hero Academia, Death Note, and Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as some of Japan’s favorites, like Black Clover and Gintama. Crunchyroll is an American distributor, publisher, and licensing company based in San Francisco. The site got its start back in 2006 and has since accrued an audience of over 35 million worldwide. What’s more, Crunchyroll also provides a free service – which is rare nowadays! However, free accounts are subject to a limited number of titles, ads, and lower-quality video streams. Luckily, a premium paid service is also available. More than a million people currently subscribe to the premium service, which removes ads, allows for streaming in HD, and gives full access to all of Crunchyroll’s titles – so long as they’re available in your particular geographical region. Extra emphasis on that last point! Although it is depressing that the amount of anime you can watch depends entirely on where you’re located, it doesn’t have to be that way – thanks to VPNs! Crunchyroll’s Geographical Restrictions As with most video streaming services (Netflix and Amazon Video, for example), Crunchyroll’s content is subject to geo-restrictions. As a result, the titles available on the service vary from country to country. A Premium Crunchyroll account in your country may only have half of the anime titles available elsewhere, which is completely unfair. The US has by far the most choice when it comes to Crunchyroll, which is why this is the best Crunchyroll catalog to unblock with a VPN. And if you are a US citizen on vacation – or living abroad – you can also use a VPN to get back your full Crunchyroll library. So, whether you are a foreigner wanting to view never-before-seen titles on Crunchyroll, or an account holder wanting to access your home library, you can use a Crunchyroll VPN from this guide. What’s new to Crunchyroll in 2021? If you are a fan of anime, the good news is that there is new content being released all the time. That means a Crunchyroll subscription can keep you busy streaming all day long. Below, we have included a list of some of the most recent releases and new episodes. Attack on Titan Theatre of Darkness EX-ARM Non Non Biyori Digimon Adventure Boruto: Naruto Next Generation One Piece World Trigger Cells at Work Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai Strike Witches Black Clover Shadowverse Tetsujin 28 Fatal Fury OVA So I’m a Spider, So What? How to use Crunchyroll with a VPN Bypassing Crunchyroll’s geographical restrictions with a VPN couldn’t be simpler. All you need to do is: Subscribe to one of the recommended services in this guide and install the VPN software. Connect to a server in the US. Access the expanded Crunchyroll catalog. How does it work? When you access Crunchyroll from a VPN-protected device, the site will only detect the IP address of the VPN server you’re connected to. As a result, the site will be tricked into thinking you’re based in that location, too. If you’re interested in learning more about how VPNs work, you can check out our beginner’s guide. CyberGhost VPN Discount Coupon 85% Off Today Get 3 months for free, and a 45-day money-back guarantee Will a free VPN unblock Crunchyroll? No. Unfortunately, free VPN services are not suitable for streaming video content because they are too slow and have monthly usage limits. This makes them unsuitable for streaming content on Crunchyroll. However, using a secure free VPN to test its ability to unblock Crunchyroll can be a good idea. Just be sure to stick to one of the recommended VPNs in this guide – most of them offer VPN free trials or money-back guarantees. Private Internet Access Discount Coupon Get 84% Off With our PIA Discount With a 30-day money-back guarantee Can I use a VPN to unblock a premium Crunchyroll subscription? Crunchyroll has now introduced new membership tiers, which means you can use your VPN to gain access to more anime than ever before. By subscribing to Crunchyroll, you will gain access to anime content for offline viewing. Best of all, by paying for a subscription you will remove the adverts that are present on the free version –allowing you to enjoy anime completely uninterrupted! Premium subscriptions now come in three different tiers: Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan. A Fan account will remove all ads and will give you access to simulcast series on their Japanese release date. This subscription will cost you $7. 99 per month. A Mega Fan subscription ramps things up further by giving you permission to download and watch content while offline – and by permitting you to access four streams simultaneously – so that you and up to three friends can watch different shows on a single account (great for students living in shared accommodation, for example). A Mega Fan account will cost you $9. 99 per month, which is pretty good value if you do share the cost with a few friends. Finally, the Ultimate Fan account will cost you $14. 99 per month and it will increase your add free viewing capacity to six concurrent streams. In addition, it will come with an annual member swag bag, member-only access to exclusive merch, and a special discount of $25 in the Crunchyroll Store every three months (when you spend $100 or more). Need a way to pay? If you want to pay for any of these premium subscription plans from outside of the US, we recommend using US Unlocked. It will provide you with a virtual US payment card that you can use to pay for Crunchyroll or any other US service or account! Get US Unlocked Beating the Crunchyroll VPN ban Having a VPN that doesn’t work with Crunchyroll is extremely frustrating. If you’ve ever seen the following message: Sorry, due to licensing limitations, videos are unavailable in your region. Then you know just what we’re talking about! Unfortunately, Crunchyroll is now blocking IP addresses that belong to VPN services. Plenty of streaming services do the same nowadays, and it ultimately means that fewer and fewer VPNs actually have the capability to unblock Crunchyroll. At the time of writing this article, all of our recommended VPNs are able to reliably give users access to Crunchyroll. It’s worth bearing in mind that this is a fluid situation, however, and it’s possible that the VPNs in this article may suffer temporary blocks from time to time. These premium services typically have servers in reserve and tricks up their sleeves to get you access again, though! Check out our Crunchyroll VPN ban page for more information about why they block VPN users and how to get around the blocks. My VPN isn’t working with Crunchyroll – what should I do? If you encounter a VPN server that does not work with Crunchyroll, the best thing to do is to try a different server or contact your VPN provider’s customer support team to find out if they have another server that works. It is becoming increasingly rare for a VPN to unblock Crunchyroll, so your best bet is to stick to our recommended providers to avoid any disappointment. Remember, if you have recently signed up for a VPN that isn’t working with Crunchyroll, there is still hope. All the providers in our recommended list offer generous money-back guarantees. So, if you are having continuing issues and have no luck switching servers, you can get your money back and try another service from our list. Crunchyroll VPN errors codes Below, we’ve listed some common error codes that you might encounter when using a VPN with Crunchyroll – and we’ve covered how to resolve them, too. Crunchyroll 403 error ‘Crunchyroll forbidden 403’ is an error message usually served when a user attempts to access the platform using a VPN IP address that has been blocked. If you’re using a VPN that’s touted to work, you may need to swap servers in order to access Crunchyroll. You might also benefit from clearing your cookies. If you are connecting to Crunchyroll without a VPN and you get this message, clear your cookies and restart your machine. Crunchyroll error 1015 Error 1015 is a Crunchyroll error that is caused by CloudFlare. Specifically, the error message is a result of the CDN rate-limiting users who they believe may have had their account compromised. Users suffering from this issue should be able to fix it by updating their password for the service. Crunchyroll error 1005 Crunchyroll error 1005 is the message served to users accessing the service from a banned IP address. Is Sony about to buy Crunchyroll? If you are a keen anime fan who loves Crunchyroll, you may have heard the rumors that Sony is about to buy-out the streaming platform. According to the reports that are currently circulating, Sony is attempting to close a deal that would see it acquiring Crunchyroll for $1 billion. The good news is that if Sony does buy Crunchyroll from AT&T (its current owner) it will not affect the service or any its 3 million users. The service should remain the same and will continue to provide its service. In fact, Sony is likely to have plans to improve the service. After all, Sony already owns Funimation, which licenses shows like Attack on Titan, Fullmetal Alchemist, and One Piece. FAQs Check out the frequently asked questions related to Crunchyroll below. Conclusion If you have watched everything there is to see on your current Crunchyroll catalog, 2021 is a great time to branch out by getting a VPN! I just wanted to take a moment to point out the CR Terms of Service – which you agreed to to use this – /tos7. Obligations for Crunchyroll Users.
The Site and Services may be used and accessed for lawful purposes only. You agree to abide by all applicable local, state, national and foreign laws, treaties and regulations in connection with your use of the Site and Services. In addition, without limitation, you agree that you will not do any of the following while using or accessing the Site or Services:…
Forge any TCP/IP packet header or any part of the header information in any posting or in any way use the Site or Services to send altered, deceptive or false source-identifying information;
Basically, CR sets up licenses with the anime producers to legally stream anime. Those licenses come with limitations and requirements – including making sure that those limitations are met. So if the license says “region X gets this show for 37 days”, it’s part of the terms of service that you’re not supposed to try to get around that by forging information about your location.
I’m sorry that you don’t get access to the anime you want – I know there are times when I see shows are listed that I can’t get access to, either, but it’s the law and the way things are set up. As a premium member, you can request a show – see the forum rules, there’s a link there to the thread for that – which the staff does check and will try to push for region expansions based on.

using VPN is against the Terms of Service because it bypasses license restrictions. Crunchyroll doesn’t have the legal rights to stream some content in certain regions, so they don’t. it’s not Crunchyroll that is being malicious and ‘unfair’ – Crunchyroll is just following the law as a legal streaming source.

I, too was banned for using VPN. I used to (STill am but cancelling this month) a premium member and watch my shows through VPN. However, now I can’t do that anymore so I’ll just go to pirates sites. The law can kiss my ass.

i think this is very unfair. governments wants us to not stream and pay for what we watch but wont give us a global option where everything is available. and in order to watch show licensed in my europe i have to pay hundreds on multiple streaming sites.

Amazon you need amazon prime to watch their exclusive anime, that alone is 12$ ish monthly
Hulu gets exclusives. thats another 12$ or so
Netflix another 12$
Crunchyroll 7$/12$ monthly depending on what subscription
Funimation 6$ monthly
HiDIVE 5$ Monthly (unless you managed to get locked into their 2 years of only 4$ monthly special)
(If you want both CR and Funi, it’d be cheaper to get VRV, but if you only want 1 service, VRV isn’t worth it)
You aren’t the only ones who have to pay multiple services to watch anime. America does too. It would be nice to have a legal place that has all the anime, world wide, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Here in the US, in order to have legal access to every title from this season, one would need to pay for at least 4 services: Crunchyroll, Funimation or Hulu (for Tokyo Ghoul:re), HIDIVE, and Amazon Prime Video. One could also add Netflix, although they don’t simulcast, so except for 3 titles released all at once back in March, we won’t be seeing this season’s titles until later.
Having to use multiple services to have access to everything is by no means unique to your region.

I just canceled my subscription for the same reason, I see no reason to continue paying the same amount someone in the US would pay to have access to a fraction of what they can see, so far I was using a VPN but they finally banned my ip address block…
What I find somewhat funny is that I try hard to not go back to pirating but streaming providers (and more so copyright owners) try so hard to make sure I can’t stay legal, that’s pathetic…

To be clear: We are blocking IP ranges for abusive traffic, e. g. attacks on the Crunchyroll infrastructure and attacks on user accounts by fraudsters. It is very well possible that the traffic originates from users of the same VPN service you and others were using because it was cheap and allowed for easy account creation.
As using a VPN to mask your location is against our ToS in first place, we will not be unblocking individual IPs or ranges associated to VPN providers.

Thanks for the clarification, this was not a cheap host but a private hosted server, in any case using a VPN is still against the terms of services so the rest still stands true.

I was under the impression that using a VPN is not against the ToS. There are times when customers are required to use a VPN (military for example). Using a VPN to essentially lie (keyword here) about your geo-location IS, however, most definitely against the ToS.

This is why I have VPN software installed on my March 23 2017 The US Senate voted to eliminate broadband privacy rules that would have required ISPs to get consumers’ explicit consent before selling or sharing Web browsing data and other private information with advertisers and other companies. I use it for privacy against my ISP so that where I browse on the internet is not passed on to someone without my consent. Even if it is just Crunchyroll I have the right to my privacy. Please reconsider this part of theTOS

I have so many issues using my Crunchy Roll account here in Spain it is stupid. I am military and basically get screwed for getting stationed overseas. Half the time the videos don’t play just the audio and I get issues with content being blocked due to EU blah blah blah. I love having the service but will probably have to leave since I am paying gor a service I barely get to use.

7 Best VPNs for Crunchyroll: How to watch Anime from anywhere
Want to watch your favorite anime on Crunchyroll? We’ll walk you through how to access the full US library on Crunchyroll from anywhere in the world using a VPN.
@osman_husain UPDATED: April 14, 2021
Crunchyroll is a popular video streaming site for users looking to stream anime flicks and other East Asian content including music, dramas, manga, and electronic entertainment. The company is headquartered in the US – technically the site is accessible from anywhere in the world but geo-restrictions apply in terms of the anime content library that’s available to each user.
Using a VPN with Crunchyroll will allow you to access a lot more titles. For example, the US has the biggest catalog of titles and other titles are only available in certain countries. A VPN will allow you to access your favorite titles from anywhere, however, not all VPNs work with Crunchyroll.
If you haven’t got the time to want to read the rest of this article, here’s our list of the best VPNs that will unblock Crunchyroll:
NordVPN Our #1 pick! Blazing fast speeds and super-strong security. Unblocks geo-restricted sites with ease. Includes a 30-day money-back guarantee.
ExpressVPN Unblocks Crunchyroll from anywhere with fast servers that are fine-tuned for speedy streaming. Top privacy and security features.
CyberGhost Best budget choice. Fast and easy to set up and use. Secure and reliable.
IPVanish Prefered by Kodi users for the remote-friendly app. Won’t work in China.
VyprVPN Easy to use, secure and hits good speeds. Cheaper options on this list.
ZenMate Capable of HD streaming with Crunchyroll, but concerns about DNS leaks during testing.
Hotspot Shield Provides exceptional speeds and unblocking ability. User-friendly apps and strong security.
Some of the more popular titles in Crunchyroll’s library are classics like Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, and Attack on Titan. The company boasts that episodes come online within 1 hour of being broadcast in Japan.
But the largest library of Crunchyroll’s content is in the US. It is possible to sign up from anywhere in the world, turn on your VPN, and get the premium service.
Short for Virtual Private Network, a VPN encrypts all the traffic flowing to and from your device and tunnels it via an intermediary server outside your current location. Hence if you’re in Europe all you need to do is sign up for a VPN, choose a server in the US, and all of Crunchyroll’s content will appear. This works by the VPN assigning you a US IP address so you appear to be in America. A VPN also makes it very difficult for ISPs, hackers, and surveillance agencies to monitor your internet behavior due to encryption.
Signing up for and using a VPN is perfectly legal. Millions of people around the world exercise this right and they’re not breaking any laws by doing so.

CyberGhost is a reliable VPN provider – its primary value proposition is the fact that it’s not pricey and delivers a product that’s speedy, stable, and secure. Currently, it offers over 5, 700 servers in 90 countries and operates more than 1100 servers in the US so accessing Crunchyroll shouldn’t be a problem. 4. IPVanish
IPVanish can be categorized as another premium VPN service. Speeds are excellent and encryption standards in the first tier. It is headquartered in the US, which might alarm some users, but we haven’t noticed any instances of the provider handing over user data. Its internal policy of zero data storage is another compelling factor to opt for the service.
IPVanish is a solid choice if you’re looking to stream video – most of its servers are designed to optimize speed and stability of connection. A total of 1, 200 servers are spread across the globe. The US has the largest share with around 600 or almost 42 percent.
As we’ve mentioned before, encryption standards are premium. The service uses 256-bit encryption on the OpenVPN protocol by default, SHA512 authentication, and a DHE-RSA 2, 048-bit key exchange with perfect forward secrecy.
There are apps for both iOS and Android as well as desktop software for Windows and MacOS.
Many users find it an excellent option for Kodi because it allows them to download the Android APK directly to their device. The interface is remote control friendly for Kodi devices that lack a keyboard and mouse.
With around 600 US servers it can unblock just about any streaming site in HD speeds
The interface is easy to use with Kodi and other Android-based media systems.

5. VyprVPN
VyprVPN has a bit of a data logging policy – it records “the user’s source IP address, the VyprVPN IP address used by the user, connection start and stop time, and total number of bytes used. ” But this shouldn’t trouble users – there’s nothing on the internet which suggests VyprVPN has misused data in the past or willingly collaborated with authorities.
The provider adds that all information is stored only for 30 days and used to improve the product. Its robust encryption standards make it extremely difficult for malicious entities to snoop on your data in the first place.
All traffic is secured by the OpenVPN protocol, 256-bit AES encryption, 2, 048-bit RSA keys without perfect forward secrecy, and SHA256 authentication. An internet kill switch is included.
For an additional fee, subscribers can opt to use the Chameleon ™ protocol. This feature further obfuscates your connection, making it immensely difficult for your ISP to figure out that you’re using a VPN to scour the web.
There are over 700 servers spread across the globe with a large number present in the United States.
Apps are available for both Android and iOS as well as a desktop client for Windows and MacOS.
Fast speeds are perfect for streaming
Operates multiple servers in 8 major US cities
Privacy and security features won’t let you down
Cheaper providers higher on the list
No cryptocurrency payment options
UNLIMITED DATA USAGE:VyprVPN is user friendly. Speeds were surprisingly good for the cheaper end of the market. Could do with more servers and lacks 24/7 support. 30-day money-back guarantee.

6. ZenMate
ZenMate offers a larger network of servers and better encryption standards than its free Chrome VPN extension. There’s a 14-day money-back guarantee as well so you can try out the service and see if it works for you before settling.
Global VPN server locations total 1, 000 including many in the US, but the exact number isn’t specified.
The service uses 128-bit AES encryption in conjunction with 2, 048-bit RSA keys and SHA 256 for authentication. An internet kill switch is included. These are considered adequate, so no worries on this front.
One thing to consider is that the service did display some DNS leaks during our user review. That’s troubling from a privacy angle – but as we mentioned before, you can try before you buy.
Apps are available for both Android and iOS.
Works fine with Crunchyroll and can some other popular streaming sites
Strong online security features, including automatic kill-switch
Plenty of reliable streaming optimized servers in the US
We got some DNS leaks during our testing
Email-only support
Won’t unblock as many US streaming sites as other providers higher on the list

Some VPNs to avoid
When users sign up for a VPN, they’re assuming that the provider will zealously guard their data and privacy. After all, that’s one of the core use cases of a VPN in the first place – the fact that your digital footprint is largely hidden on the web.
The VPNs that we’ve recommended in this list don’t have a history of carrying out any sordid acts, but not all companies are born equal. Here are a few we think you should avoid at all costs:
1. HolaVPN
Israel-based Hola, which operated a peer-to-peer VPN extension for Chrome, once had a sizable community of 50 million users. But it chose to undo all the good work by unethically (and probably illegally) turning it into a massive botnet army.
If you were a Hola user, then it’s likely that a part of your bandwidth was used for Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, promoting copyrighted content, and pornography.
2. PureVPN
Some media reports a couple of months ago reported that a well-known provider, PureVPN, willingly handed over some user data to US law enforcement agencies. This was done as part of an investigation into a credible case of online blackmailing and led to the arrest of Massachusetts resident Ryan Lin.
PureVPN insists that it didn’t track the content of Ryan’s browsing data and only handed over the source IP address but the company could definitely have been more transparent.
Crunchyroll VPNs FAQs
Should I use a free VPN for Crunchyroll? Some users will be tempted to sign up for a free VPN. Such services are heavily advertised on the web and usually allow you to sign up without a credit card. But there are some risks you should be aware of.
Free VPN services routinely deploy weak encryption standards, painfully slow speeds, and an ongoing threat of viruses/malware infections. Such companies try to attract as many users as possible in order to make a quick buck via invasive advertisements or other unethical practices such as mining your data.
We believe it’s best if you ignore such scams. If you’re short on cash, check out our list of the best VPNs with a free else can I do with a VPN? We’ve written this article to show how it’s possible to access Crunchyroll’s entire library from anywhere in the world, but that’s not the only thing a paid subscription to a VPN has to offer.
VPNs spoof your identity and make host websites assume you’re located somewhere else. When you select a server in the United States, all websites you visit will now assume you’re physically present there. This will result in a bunch of other geo-restricted content opening up too – such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, and ESPN.
We recommend you use a VPN for everyday web browsing as well. The software encrypts all the traffic flowing through your device – this is useful in the world we live today where individual privacy is increasingly under threat and governments and ISPs resort to lurid means to hack into user data. VPNs will allay these threats to a significant degree.

Will a VPN slow my Crunchyroll streaming? Not necessarily! If you choose a quality paid VPN, you’re unlikely to notice a difference in speed. This is especially the case if your ISP is engaging in bandwidth throttling. The best VPNs offer fast servers as well as unlimited bandwidth. This means you can stream as much as you like without having to worry about performance issues such as lag or buffering.
