Meet Alli Davis! – Sprious
Sprious’ new Content Writer introduces herself in her own words
Gosh, these things are hard to write. If you know me, you know I’m an external processor, which means I absolutely cannot understand how people solve problems in their own heads. This is my commandment: thou shalt talk it out. But I have a lot of things to say, so it’s hard to know where to start telling new people about myself. Do you want to know about Pepper, my 14-year-old pomeranian-chihuahua who is annoying as heck but also makes me miss him oh-so-very much? Or about my crooked pinkies? My Spotify playlists? My tattoos?
Introducing yourself is tricky. I could tell you about all these things, but would that help you know the real me? I guess it’d be a step in the right direction, and if there’s one thing I believe about my life, it’s this: a step in any direction is better than no step at all. I also believe these things:
People are inherently good.
Summer is the best season.
Pineapple does belong on pizza.
It’s brave to change your mind.
Before college, I thought I wanted to be a teacher. Someone who helped kids learn to love to read. Someone who said, “You are seen, you are known, you are loved. ” When I decided to pursue a career in journalism instead, I think I was afraid that I couldn’t do those things anymore. Then I started covering events and writing obituaries for one of our local newspapers, and I realized how wrong I was. People just want to be heard, you know? And I surprised myself by finding that I could do that well as a journalist. You’d think I would have held onto that lesson when I joined the Sprious family this summer, but surprise (again)! I am human. Writing blogs about proxies and website hosting didn’t really sound like a job that would change the world, but after one short month writing about these things, my world feels brand new.
At Sprious, it’s not about the blogs, the proxies or the websites. It’s about the people, and that is quite the dream. It’s about learning to take chances, make mistakes and charge headfirst into the (very scary) unknown. I’m learning to see better, know better and love better, both at work and at home. Really, I’m just learning to learn, and it feels pretty darn good. I mean, I get to tell my friends I work at a place that gives me free books for gosh sakes. (Did I already say this is a dream? )
If I get the chance to meet whoever’s reading this someday, I’d love to tell you about my dog, my music and my tattoos. To hear about your favorite seasons and pizza preferences. Heck, to chat about proxies, websites and other tech-y things that are hard for most of us to understand (that’s what I’m paid to do, after all. ) But I probably won’t get that chance, so just know this: I’m writing about proxies and living my dream because I stepped in an unknown direction. Also know this: it was a pretty cool direction.
