I’ll give an example that I did for nearly 10 years, but doesn’t work anymore. I scraped book swapping sites (where you post your books, people request them, you send it and you get a credit you can then use to request a book from someone else) those sites also let you buy credits. That’s how they make their scraper crawled the site, grabbed the bar code numbers of the available books, then looked up the prices of those books on Amazon. If I could sell the book on Amazon for $20+, my script would buy a credit for $4ish and request the Amazon fees and the $4 expense I would make $10 minimum profit, per book. Often times these were more expensive books where I’d make a $50+ I’d perfected my scripts it was 95% automated. I’d spend one whole day a month processing and shipping the books to Amazon, and it was bringing in close to $2000 a month creased Amazon fees, and other webscrapers figuring out the same tactic killed it.
