How to Get World of Warcraft for Free – wikiHow

World of Warcraft (WoW) is one of the most popular online games in the world, and now anyone can play for free without time restrictions. Your account will be limited, but you’ll be able to explore the game for as long as you want. If you are an experienced player, you can use your stacks of Gold to purchase game time directly from Blizzard, allowing you to continue playing WoW without spending any real money.
1
Understand what a free account can do. Free accounts can be leveled up to Level 20 (out of a possible 120 levels), and can continue to play after hitting the cap (without accruing additional XP). Free accounts are also limited to 10 Gold. Free accounts also have limits on in-game communication, and cannot join Guilds. [1]
If you have a subscription that’s lapsed, your account will turn into a Starter account with all the same restrictions except that your character will have the ability to join the same Guild as any of your other characters. You won’t have access to any of your characters above Level 20, but you can create new characters.
Starter accounts are a great way to play for as long as you want to decide if World of Warcraft is for you.
2
Visit the Account Creation page for World of Warcraft. You can access it at if you live in the US. Otherwise, visit and find the account creation page for your country.
If you already have a account, you can log in and download World of Warcraft immediately.
3Fill out the account creation form. Make sure to use a valid email address so that you can confirm your account. You don’t need a credit card to sign up for the free version. Click the “Play it Free” button after filling out the form.
4Click “Download the game” to begin downloading World of Warcraft. If you accidentally closed your browser or need to download the file again, you can get it from
5
Run the installer. The World of Warcraft installer file is very small, and should finish downloading in just a few moments. Once it’s finished downloading, open it to install
is the launcher program for World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games.
6Verify your account while the launcher is installing. You should have received a verification email at the address that you entered when creating the account. Follow the link in the email to verify your account.
7Log into with the account you just created. World of Warcraft will prompt you to begin installation. Click “Start Install” to begin downloading it.
8
Wait for World of Warcraft to download and install. World of Warcraft is a big game (70 GB), so downloading will take a while on even the fastest connections.
You’ll also want to ensure that you have enough disk space to install the game. Click here for tips on freeing up space.

Understand the process. On April 6th, 2015 an update to World of Warcraft introduced WoW Tokens. These are items that players can redeem for 30 days of a World of Warcraft subscription. Tokens can be purchased for real money and then sold in the in-game Auction House for Gold. This allows you to effectively purchase your subscription from Gold you earn playing the game. [2]
Because Starter Accounts can’t access the Auction House, and because WoW tokens are very expensive, this isn’t a viable method for free Starter accounts. You’ll need to be a paying subscriber in order to access the Auction House and earn enough gold to extend your subscription.
Gather enough gold. When the Wow Tokens launched, they were put on the Auction House for around 200k-300k gold (depending on the server). The price is now set by the players, and fluctuates based on supply and demand. Regardless, WoW Tokens are still quite expensive, so you’ll want to have an ample regular income of Gold to afford it monthly.
If you farm for Gold efficiently, you can earn around 1, 000-2, 000 Gold per hour. This means you could reasonably expect to be able to afford a WoW token after a few weeks of farming.
3
Open the Auction House. You can use your gold to purchase WoW Tokens from the Auction House. You can access the Auction House from most major cities throughout World of Warcraft, and many cities have more than one Auction House location.
Auction House listings are linked for the whole faction, so you’ll find the same listings from any Auction House you have access to.
4Select the “Game Time” category. This will display all of the active listings for WoW Tokens.
5Place a bid or buyout the Token to acquire it. The Token will be delivered to your Inbox. Click the Token in the Inbox message to add it to your inventory.
6
Right-click the Token in your inventory. Click the “30 Days of Game Time” button to confirm that you want to add the time to your account. 30 days of playtime will be added to the end of your current subscription. Your new renewal date will be displayed in the window. Finally, click “Accept” to confirm again.
You will receive a confirmation email at your account email address letting you know that the transaction went through.

No. Multiplayer games are extremely hard to crack or pirate.
What are all of the restrictions with having a free account?
Viktor Alexander Magnus Agestav
Community Answer
The level cap is 20, goldcap is around 10, and gold and a lot of social features are restricted. If you want to try the game, I recommend buying 1 month of play time in order to get further.
Does the Gametime will stop if I don’t play for some days?
No. Your Gametime will still count down even when not online at the game.

World of Warcraft (WoW) Subscription Cost (2021 Price Guide)

World of Warcraft (WoW) Subscription Cost (2021 Price Guide)

An overview of how much it costs to start playing World of Warcraft Classic, Burning Crusade Classic, or Shadowlands in 2021.
Since its release in 2004, World of Warcraft (WoW) has released 8 expansions! Fortunately, as a new or returning player, you don’t need to buy each of these updates and games individually. So, what expansions do you need to buy? How much does it cost to start playing WoW?
In short, you can begin playing WoW Classic and all content up through the 7th expansion (Battle for Azeroth) for the price of a monthly subscription. In the U. S., this will cost you $14. 99/month for a single month, $41. 97 for 3 months, or $77. 94 for a 6-month commitment. If you want to play the most recent expansion — World of Warcraft: Shadowlands — you will need to purchase at least the Base Edition for $39. 99. You can also buy the game with extra perks for $59. 99 (Heroic Edition) or $79. 99 (Epic Edition).
If you decide to purchase the game, make sure to check out my ultimate guide for new and returning World of Warcraft players!
When you purchase longer subscription lengths, you ultimately get a lower price per month, but you have to pay upfront. Each tier you move up lowers the per month price by $1. So, if you opted to get two 6-month subscriptions, you would save $24 per year. Also, you would receive a couple in-game rewards (typically mounts) reserved for players with a 6-month subscription.
Subscription LengthCost/Price (US)$ Per Month1-month$14. 99/month$14. 993-months$41. 97$13. 996-months$77. 94$12. 99
WoW subscription costs in Canada and the U. K.
The prices I quoted above only apply to players in the United States, where I live. If you are from another country, there is a good chance that your costs will be slightly different. For example, players in Canada will pay a somewhat higher per-month price, even after the exchange rate. As of December 2020, Blizzard set the WoW subscription costs in Canada as follows:
Subscription LengthCost/Price (CAD)$ Per Month1-month$21. 99/month$21. 993-months$61. 49$20. 506-months$115. 99$19. 33
In contrast, the price of subscriptions is slightly lower after the exchange rate for players in the U. K. For those of you in the U. K., you can expect to pay the following amounts if you are interested in playing WoW:
Subscription LengthCost/Price (U. )£ Per Month1-month£9. 99/month£9. 993-months£28. 17£9. 396-months£52. 14£8. 69
All of the prices mentioned to this point are for players who set up reoccurring subscriptions on their account. This requires that you provide a credit card that will be charged on the renewal date. If you aren’t interested in setting up a reoccurring subscription, there are a few other options.
Alternatives to reoccurring subscriptions
The first alternative to a reoccurring subscription is to purchase 60 days of game time. You can do this through your launcher shop or through the online Blizzard Shop. When purchased, it will grant you 2 months of game time and will set you back $29. At the end of the 60 days, your time expires, and you would need to purchase additional time to continue playing.
As a side note, you can also gift game time to your friends with this approach.
Another alternative to a reoccurring subscription is to purchase your game time with WoW tokens. Unfortunately, this method requires that you have active game time on your account and the ability/time to make a decent amount of in-game gold.
To get a WoW token, you will need to farm up gold and buy one on the auction house. The token price will depend on how many tokens are available on the auction house, so I can’t give you an exact gold price here. If you are interested in how much gold you would need, you can look on the A. H. or in the shop tab of your in-game menu. You could also look it up online as well.
The final alternative to a reoccurring subscription is to subscribe and then immediately cancel. While this still requires you to provide a credit card, it will ensure that you avoid that surprise charge if you forgot to cancel.
Purchasing the Shadowlands expansion
As mentioned above, you will need to buy the Shadowlands expansion to play the newest content. If you get the Base edition of the game, you will get access to the expansion and a mount that looks like a tree (Wandering Ancient Mount). This is the cheapest option.
The other options give you more perks but also cost more. These perks take the form of mounts, a pet, transmog, a hearthstone animation, and 30 days of game time.
You can see the perks for purchasing each version of Shadowlands in the following table:
BaseHeroicEpicShadowlandsexpansionXXXWandering Ancient mountXXXCharacter boost (level 50) XXEverwyrm flyingmount XXEternal traveler transmog XXWraithchill weaponeffect XEternal traveleranimation X30 days of game time XAnima Wyrmling pet X
How much does WoW Classic/Burning Crusade Classic cost?
Perhaps you are interested in WoW because you want to play Classic. Let’s talk about how much that will set you back.
Basically, it will cost you the monthly membership price if you want to play WoW Classic or Burning Crusade Classic. S., this means that it would run you $14. 99/month. However, suppose you are planning on playing for longer than a month. In that case, you can benefit from purchasing the longer subscription time for a lower per-month price.
Is there any way to play WoW free?
If you are looking to try out World of Warcraft but aren’t ready to buy yet, you can play a free trial. This trial allows you to create and play a new character to level 20 in the game’s retail version. However, the free version comes with many restrictions, including ones on the amount of gold you can have, content you can play, and social interaction.
There is no free trial of WoW Classic or Burning Crusade Classic.
Regardless, it is an excellent way for new players to try the game. If you need help getting started with the free version, you can check out my article on playing World of Warcraft for free.
Final Thoughts
While there has been a lot of World of Warcraft content released since 2004, you don’t need to buy all of the past expansions. Except for Shadowlands, every version of the game can be played by signing up for a subscription or using a game time card. If you are a new player or just want to dabble with a low-level character, you can play World of Warcraft for free.

World Of Warcraft

Blizzard finally revealed today that World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic is launching on June 1, but it’s not all good news for the community. Alongside the release announcement, Blizzard also revealed the price of its deluxe edition and new account services like a one-time character level boost, and a lot of players are upset over how steep those prices we get to the root of the issue, it’s important to know that World of Warcraft Classic is a free addition to any regular WoW subscription. It emulates the MMO as it existed back in 2006, but because MMOs tend to evolve and grow over time, players eventually got bored killing the same raid bosses and wanted more. That’s where Burning Crusade Classic comes in. It resurrects World of Warcraft’s first expansion true to how it was back in the day, giving WoW Classic players a whole new continent to explore, more levels to grind, and a bunch of other exciting changes like flying mounts. Burning Crusade Classic is also included in a regular WoW ‘s upsetting players, however, are the prices of the optional account services that many will want to use going into Burning Crusade. The most controversial is the $35 fee to clone a character so it can play on both WoW Classic and Burning Crusade servers. A patch planned for May 18 will introduce some of the expansion’s features early (like the ability to play as blood elves or draenei). After the patch rolls out, all WoW Classic players will have to make a permanent choice: Move their character forward into the Burning Crusade or choose to keep that character contained within the original WoW Classic version. (Image credit: Blizzard)Those who move forward into the Burning Crusade will stay on the same server and enjoy all the fancy new features and areas to explore when they launch a few weeks later. Those who choose to stay behind will be transferred to new servers that will stay stuck in Classic, where the level cap is 60 and no new features will be added. It might seem like an obvious choice, but a lot of players prefer the Classic version of Warcraft untouched by expansions. That’s what WoW Classic was all about in the first ‘s where the $35 clone fee comes in. If you want to have the best of both worlds you can pay to clone a single character to both sets of servers. This creates a version that plays on Burning Crusade Classic servers and a separate one that plays on regular WoW Classic servers. It’s a similar process to playing on WoW’s beta servers, where you can choose to clone one of your existing characters from live servers over to the beta server—except now it costs a whopping $35. “They can fuck off with the $35 to keep a copy of our character on classic servers, ” reads one comment. “It’s such a shameless money grab for a service that should have been included and free with the release of classic BC. “It’s easy to see why players are frustrated. World of Warcraft’s account services are infuriatingly overpriced compared to other MMOs. What’s more, by forcing players to pay to play the same character on both Burning Crusade and regular WoW Classic servers, it arbitrarily divides the community and creates pressure to follow the majority over to Burning Crusade. Otherwise you risk being left behind in a ghost-town Classic server. “[It’s] essentially killing the population for classic vanilla, ” wrote one Redditor. “Absolutely insane pricing. “”It’s really gonna cost Classic only players unfortunately, ” wrote another player. “Most of the people I knew were on the fence on whether they were going to clone at all, and probably would have for $10 just because. They certainly won’t do it at $35. “(Image credit: Blizzard)Players are also criticizing the price of the deluxe edition, which costs a hefty $70 but only includes some cosmetics, a character level boost, and one month of game time. That’s more than the cost of the special edition of the Shadowlands expansion, which included the access to Shadowlands itself (valued at $40). “Dear lord that’s more than many triple-A games cost now, ” wrote one user on Wowhead. “You know, standalone games? That are non-sub based? “None of these purchases are mandatory. Players can jump in and enjoy Burning Crusade Classic for just $15 a month, but it feels manipulative when you’re then presented with big choices with permanent consequences that can be sidestepped by paying a lot of money. A few months ago I wrote about how upset I was that I had to pay $25 just to transfer my WoW character to a different server due a severe faction imbalance that made it difficult to have fun. These account services are all largely automated—it’s not like a Blizzard employee is working tirelessly to manually copy and paste character data—so the fact that you’re being charged so much for them feels like a a long time WoW player who has probably spent thousands of dollars in subscription fees and expansions over the years, this sucks. But it’s a strategy that’s apparently working: Even though Blizzard has shed about 30% of the players it had three years ago, revenue is up 7%. Somehow I doubt that will be helpful news to those irked by the optional costs associated with Burning Crusade Classic.
Steven enjoys nothing more than a long grind, which is precisely why his specialty is on investigative feature reporting on China’s PC games scene, weird stories that upset his parents, and MMOs. He’s Canadian but can’t ice skate. Embarrassing.
