Travian for Dummies: Top 5 Early Game Tips
In any competitive game, the early stages can be quite intense. It’s in Travian’s nature to really pit the players against each other; that is part of the reason why there is beginner’s protection. Nevertheless, there are certain tactics that will help you survive these trying times at the start of the round.
Here are five tips to help you when you’re starting out:
#1 – Second Village
The main goal is to create a second village as early as you can, so keep your eyes on the prize. The main reason for this is to establish a village in an ideal location with optimal resource fields that suit your chosen style of gameplay. For example, a village on a 15-crop field and an oasis with 150% bonus crop production are highly sought-after. If you’re smart with your resources, you’ll be able to settle one of these villages before the location is occupied!
#2 – Tasklist
Focus on completing the task list. The rewards from each task are significant and the sooner you complete them, the sooner you’ll have your second village. Be careful not to waste the resource rewards if your Warehouse/Granary cannot store them. Either spend some resources to make room or upgrade the Warehouse/Granary!
#3 – Join an Alliance
Join an alliance as fast as possible. Travian is a community-based game and no one will be successful on their own. Get to know the alliances in your area and make a decision on who you’d like to join. If you manage to join a large alliance, other players might think twice about raiding you…
#4 – Raid Oases
Raid oases as much as possible, especially using your Hero. Oases with 25% bonus can hold up to 1, 000 of each resource (a total of 4, 000 resources), whereas oases with 50% bonus (either 2 x 25% or 1 x 50%) can hold up to 2, 000 of each resource. Oases start off with 12 hours production at the start of a server. They accumulate resources based on an hourly production rate. If you think your hero might die when raiding an oasis, remember that the cost of reviving the hero may be worth the bounty. If you believe the oasis has 4, 000 resources and it costs you 1, 050 to revive your hero, you’ll still profit from raiding it! It’s better for you to claim the resources than your enemies!
#5 – Capture Nature Troops
Try to catch natural units with hero cages. In the beginning of the game, natural units are incredibly valuable. Each type of natural unit has different strengths. The most powerful is the elephant, but it’s also very rare. If you see one, try to catch it! The next best for early-game defense is the crocodile, as it has the highest defense stats against infantry.

I enjoy video games and MMOs, and I like sharing strategy tips and advice with other how to be a better player in “Travian. “My first time on a Travian server (7 years ago) was an exercise in frustration and fear. I joined the server and was soon demolished by an experienced player. I decided to learn more about the game and also try to become the ‘alpha male’ in my region. I would rather lose some resources and keep my troops safe. I also like to catch some animals (big ones) from the oases so that, if anyone is too curious and sends small raids, they’ll have their troops killed by the animals. Usually, as soon as you have a few players lose troops (and get some numbers in your defense rating), people will most likely avoid, start making troops as soon as possible and have it as a priority to build a few each! As mentioned before, I usually give up my beginner protection to be able to attack other players. Most of my resources are invested back in my barracks and that means more troops, which bring in more you’re doing it right, while the resource fields are bringing in maybe 10k/day (in the beginning), your troops can bring in at least this number and sometimes even more. In my case, after few weeks of playing, the troops get me at least 4–5 times more resources than what my village is producing, which is not that oases (this also trains your hero), and raid anything with a ‘pulse’ near your village and farther away. Idle troops don’t matter; make them active and raid as much as you can. Reinvest resources in the resource fields (to make sure you are producing when you’re sleeping and inactive in the game) and also build some more troops. Population Makes You a Wonderful FarmI always have neighbours who think that, high population will make other players fear them. When I choose a new farm, I look at all records (population, attack rank, defense rank and hero rank). This shows me if I have to deal with someone who’s strong or just a nice juicy farm who’s got a lot of resources for my you have troops in the village, it will be a harder for someone to attack you (or not worth it). The sheer amount of resources you need to build and defend the World Wonder you are building boggle the mind of any noob who’s never made it past the first third of the server. And you need at LEAST one other person in your alliance who holds a second copy of the Wonder plans. Not wanting to be in an alliance is just plain a bad attitude and denotes a player who would never win even if he weren’t a quitter and hadn’t given up already.
