Sometimes, one Instagram account is not enough. Whether you’re starting a business, managing a feed for your job, or just want a place specifically reserved for showcasing your photography, it’s easier than ever to manage multiple Instagram accounts at once.
Back in the day, you had to log completely out of one Instagram account before you could sign in to another. But nowadays, Instagram allows you to switch back and forth between accounts without logging out. Here’s everything you need to know about juggling several Instagrams.
How many Instagram accounts can you have?
According to Instagram’s Help Center, you can have up to five different Instagram accounts, which you can switch between without logging out. (This is not to say that you can’t have more than five, but after you reach that limit, you’ll have to log out and log back in to access additional profiles. )
It’s also important to note that this option is only available for iPhones and Androids with the 7. 15 update (available in the App Store and the Google Play Store). So if you are unable to add additional accounts, you may need to update your Instagram app.
Can you create multiple Instagram accounts with one email address?
No. At this time, every Instagram account must have an individual email address. You can’t create multiple Instagram accounts with the same email address.
However, that doesn’t mean you have to create a new email address for every new account you make. If you create a second Instagram account via the app, you can sign up with your phone number instead of your email address.
Creating and managing multiple accounts on Instagram
Now that we’ve covered the basics, it’s time to dive into all the different ways to create and manage several accounts on Instagram. In the following section, you’ll find all the instructions you need to create new profiles, along with the answers to some of the top questions about having multiple accounts.
How to create a new Instagram account
Before share how to manage multiple accounts, let’s start with the basics: creating an Instagram account. Whether it’s your first account or your third, the same rules apply.
There are two ways you can create an Instagram account: from the app on your iPhone and from the website on your computer. Below are instructions for creating an Instagram account on your iPhone:
Open your Instagram the icon of your profile photo at the bottom-right of the your account name. Select Add AccountSelect Create New Account. Create a username and password and fill out your profile Next.
If you want to create an Instagram account from your desktop, follow these instructions:
Open your desktop to you already have an Instagram account, log out of Sign your email a username and password and fill out your profile Done.
Using either of these options will create a brand new Instagram account for you to use.
How to create a second Instagram account
When you add a new account to your app following the instructions in the previous section, the account will automatically be added in your app. That way, you can easily switch back and forth between them.
However, if you need to add a second account that you created elsewhere or at an earlier time, here’s how you can do that:
Open your Instagram the icon of your profile photo at the bottom-right of the the three horizontal lines at the top-right of the SettingsScroll to the bottom of the screen and select Add Log Into Existing Account. Enter your account information and log in.
Note that after you add a new account to your Instagram app, you will receive notifications from all of the profiles you’ve added unless you manually turn off your notifications. So if you don’t want your phone to blow up all day with messages and likes, it might be a good idea to put your secondary account on silent.
How to switch accounts on Instagram
Here’s how to switch between multiple Instagram accounts using the app:
Open your Instagram the icon of your profile photo at the bottom-right of the your username at the top of the the account you’d like to switch to.
And that’s it! After you’ve added your new account to the app, you can switch back and forth whenever you want.
How to remove a second Instagram account from the app
Not all Instagrams were meant to last forever. So if you find yourself needing to remove an Instagram account from your app, there are just a few simple steps you need to follow.
Here’s how to remove a secondary account from your Instagram app:
Open your Instagram the icon of your profile photo at the bottom-right of the the three horizontal lines at the top-right of the SettingsScroll to the bottom of the screen and select Login the blue checkmark next to the account you wish to Remove.
While following these steps will remove the account from your Instagram app, it will not disable or delete the account.
Can you merge Instagram accounts?
Even though you can jump back and forth between up to five Instagram accounts at a time, you cannot merge those accounts.
At this time, there is no way to merge followers and content from multiple accounts into a single account. The closest you can get is following the same people on both accounts and reposting the same photos.

Update your Instagram app
Can I use the same email to create a new Instagram account?
Before Instagram’s update, if you wanted to publish content with two or more Instagram profiles you needed to log out of your account and log in with the second one. This could be quite bothersome, mainly because it’s time consuming. Before, apps such as “Instwogram” were designed to simultaneously allow more than one account with the same email. However, they were often full of bugs and had limitations when it came to posting video ankfully, now Instagram has decided to incorporate this service of using one email for two accounts into their main app. This meant they had the resources to fix bugs, update the entire app and run it more smoothly. Now, it allows users to stay connected, but switch between their accounts with ease. To begin this procedure you need to ensure you have the latest Instagram update. If you are unsure where to get it, go to Android Play Store or Apple Store on iOS and make sure you have the latest Instagram version. Once you have done that, log in to both of your accounts and you will be able to switch easily between them.
Now that you have made sure you have the latest Instagram update, it’s time to learn how to log into both accounts so you can smoothly switch between the you are using Android, tap the three dots at the top right of your screen. If you are using iOS (say for an iPhone or iPad device) you need to tap the gear logo which allows you to enter the settings menu of you are in settings, go down to the Information section and find the “add account” option. On iOS it is at the very bottom highlighted in blue, just above the logout button. This will do what it says and allow you to add another account. However, it won’t appear if you don’t have the updated you have selected “add account”, the app will take you to the log in page. Here you will type in the username of the new account as well as the password (although you can also login with the email or phone number associated with the account). Type the information in and tap the button “log in”.
Now you’ll notice that when you log into Instagram, instead of the usual picture at the bottom right of your screen you’ll see your Instagram profile picture. This image is used to show which of your accounts you are currently signed change accounts you’ll simply have to tap on the image and go to your profile on the top left part of your screen. There you’ll find a fold-up arrow that will show both of your accounts. You can change freely between them and even add more that you know how to manage two Instagram accounts on iPhone and Android, you can take advantage of this easy service. You can switch with the tap of a button, see who is connecting with you, comment, send messages, etc. on both accounts. In fact, Instagram allows you to switch this easily between 5 accounts.
Although you can have up to 5 accounts in your app and switch easily between them, Instagram does not let you have various accounts using the same email. This is for security and practical purposes. It’s practical because they can send you notifications of that specific account to your email, as well as help you recover your password if you ever forget vertheless, there are two ways around this limitation:Use an app: there are apps out there which allow you to manage different social media accounts with the one hub. I had two insta accounts (using one email, I think) and then I decided to add a third account for my side hustle. Which I did using a new gmail account also created for this purpose. THEN Instagram emailed me at my gmail address telling me it had removed the gmail account from my insta account. I cannot remember the password for my third account, so when I try to recover the password I get a text that signs me directly into the account. But it doesn’t work, the feed doesn’t refresh. And I can’t set a new password because it aske me for the password I forgot before I can change it. I don’t want to start again because I’ve already notified my clients and established some followers on my new business account. help! Is there a way to talk or chat with insta to resolve this?

Thank you for this article. It is extremely helpful as I am able to do all thing things you explain. EXCEPT when I try to use marketing platforms like I am unable to connect my 2nd Instagram account and I get this message. “The username you entered doesn’t belong to an account. Please check your username and try again. ” When I check the account on my app under the edit profile link the user name is correct. Also I have a black circle around my 1st account profile pic in the bottom right hand corner but no black circle around the 2nd account when I am active on it. I can fully function on the app but I can’t function my 2nd account on my desktop. Please help.

When I started my Instagram account from my iPhone last week I didn’t know any better and when it asked if I want to add a second account I said yes. Other than your article everything says I can’t do that. Did I somehow fall into that beta testing you mentioned? I signed up for Later scheduling app hoping it would be for one of the accounts but it attached itself to the other. First question – does one account take priority in Instagram? Or does Instagram treat them equally, but separate? Second question – can I get Later to switch to the other account? If this is new territory can you help me understand the ground rules, lmitations, and possibilities using two accounts on the same email address? Loved your article. I thought I was going crazy because everyone said what I can’t exist.

I have iPhone 6. I’m trying to add a second IG ACCOUNT. I click on add account and it takes me to the log in page that I assume is to be for my new account name. When I enter a new account name it says it isn’t recognized. But it’s new. So it’s not letting me add a new account name

The second account should already exists before you join them together. Log out and create a new one from scratch and then try to join them from your first account.

I got soooo fustrated reading this as I know EXACTLY whay you mean. I have created TWO instagram account both from different emails. I can easily log into each account on instagram online and I have followers so they both obviously exist. I checked my passwords and usernames to make sure all was correct.
The 1st account I set up is fine.. I can log in via the app.
The 2nd account I created will not allow me to log in. It tells me the username does not exist even though it does. I have received emails from instagram welcoming me to my new account.
I am guessing that it blocks the IP if its detects use of more than one account??? Nothing else makes sense otherwise….
The exact same thing happened with facebook. I just created two facebook pages for both my businesses and it’s blocked my IP.
Everyone has be raving about instagram trying to get me on there… and now I cannot even use it! I am already hating it before I’ve evn started!!!!

Hi, I have an iPhone 6s. I have an instagram account, and want another. When I go to the Add Account section, it takes me to the log in page. However you said to enter new account details. However there is space for Username and Password (as if that account already exists, which it doesn’t). I enter NEW username and password, and it doesn’t recognize. The only other option says: don’t have an account? Sign up here. Do I sign up for a new account?

That’s correct, the account should already exist in order to manage both. In this case, you should create the new account.

I have two accounts using two different email addresses. I’m getting follow suggestions based on likes in my other one. I thought they weren’t supposed to be connected??? Frustrating. There is no way the suggestions should be the same. Tried clearing cache. Also tried under dual accounts and just logging in/out with new account. Suggestions are still the same.

Are you sure this account existed previously? If not, you need to create a new one from scratch. If the account you are typing in existed before and Instagram won’t let you log in the account might have been blocked or deleted. Your best option is to contact Instagram directly regarding this account.

I have an HTC Desire and my instagram is updated. It even says under my apps in Google Play that I “can now switch between multiple accounts quickly and easily” in the new update. However, when I go to the information section of my Instagram account there is no “Add Account” option listed. All I have is “Clear Search History” and “Log Out”
Should I contact Instagram directly or just hang tight and hope there’s another update fixing this soon?
